ScoreMate is a private golf scoring app built specifically for social golf groups. It gives your group a live leaderboard, Stableford and stroke play scoring, voice score entry, group photos and WHS-based handicap suggestions — all accessible from any smartphone browser without downloading an app.
No. ScoreMate works entirely in the web browser on any iOS or Android phone. The group organiser shares a link, players tap it and they're in — no App Store, no Google Play, no accounts needed for non-scorers.
ScoreMate uses the standard Stableford system: eagle 4 points, birdie 3 points, par 2 points, bogey 1 point, double bogey or worse 0 points. Handicap strokes are applied automatically to each hole based on each player's handicap index and the hole's stroke index. Results are colour-coded — gold for birdies, red for bogeys.
After 3 or more completed rounds, ScoreMate calculates a suggested WHS Handicap Index using the official World Handicap System formula. It computes a score differential for each round — adjusted for course rating and slope — averages the best differentials based on how many rounds have been played, and applies the 0.96 playing conditions factor. This gives an accurate estimate even for groups who don't hold an official Golf Australia or R&A handicap.
ScoreMate supports any golf course in the world. The group organiser enters the course par and stroke indexes when setting up a round — this takes about two minutes. We are building an expanding database of popular courses so common ones will be available automatically in future updates.
Voice scoring works best on Android Chrome, which has the most reliable Web Speech API implementation. The scorer can say things like "Mondello four, Ottavio bogey, Albert three" and ScoreMate fills in scores automatically. On iPhone, the stepper buttons are used instead — still fast and easy on the course.
Apps like Golf GameBook are built for individual golfers tracking personal stats across many courses. ScoreMate is built for the group — a private, shared space with your group's own name, history, photos and leaderboard. There is no app download, setup takes 5 minutes, and it works perfectly for the casual social golfer rather than the serious stat-tracker.
We used to argue about scores all the way to the coffee shop. Now we walk off 18 and the leaderboard is already settled. The boys absolutely love it — even the ones who can barely use their phones.
